Цель и задачи работы:
- Цель: понять значение праздников, обычаев и обрядов в жизни и культуре народов разных стран
- Задачи: узнать об особенностях культуры России и стран изучаемого языка;
- научиться кратко излагать свои мысли;
- научиться сравнивать, анализировать информацию

The beginning of a new year is a time for celebrating and for making a new start. People wish each other “Happy New Year” and send special greeting cards
2 February – Candlemas Day (Groundhog day in the USA)
The ancient festival marks the midpoint of winter, halfway between the shortest day and the spring equinox.
14 February – St Valentine’s Day
On St Valentine’s Day people send a special greeting card (Valentine) to those who they love. Some people buy presents for their sweethearts or give them red roses, a symbol of love.
The third Monday in February – Presidents Day (USA)
The holiday is called “Presidents` Day” in honor of both Presidents Washington and Lincoln.
March or April – Easter Festival
Easter Sunday is the day when Christians celebrate Christ’s return to life and victory over death.
11 March – Red Nose Day
For one day every two years, Britain goes crazy. People all over the country wear red noses and do silly things. It is the day when doing really stupid things can raise loads of money for charity.
The second Saturday in June – The Queen’s Birthday
Queen Elizabeth II was born on 21 April 1926. But beginning with 1805 all British kings and queens celebrate their official birthday on the second Saturday in June.
31 October – Halloween
Long ago people thought that on 31 October spirits of the dead came back. That’s why people dress up as withes and ghosts .
25 December – Christmas Festival
People celebrate it as the day when Jesus Christ was born. It is a busy time for families in England. They prepare presents, make cakes, hang stockings near the fireplace
26 December - Boxing day
The name comes from the time when people put money for the poor in the church boxes.
