What is Reported Speech? When you ‘report’ what someone else has said* to you *reported speech verbs: said, explained, told, suggested, recommended, asked, etc.   Direct/normal sentence: Mike:‘I like your hat!’ Indirect/reported speech: Mike said that he liked your hat.
