"Секрет моего имени" конкурсное сочинение

My parents knew what name they would give to me long before my birth. They decided to call me Danila. My mother and father always said and say nowadays that they simply like this name, the way it sounds and is pronounced. They did not think about the meaning of the name.

According to the Buryat traditions just soon afterwards my parents took me to the Lama in Ivolginskii Datsan and there I was given the name Dampil. Later my granny told me that it was of the Tibet’s origin. The first syllable of this word – Dam – means “giving”. The second one – pil – means “up”. So in the whole this name means “giving heavens”. Only my aunt and my grandpa call me as Dampil. And I respond to name though, frankly speaking, I do not like this name very much. That is why I do not like when people call me this name if the are not my relatives.

When I say that my second name is Dampil, some people are usually surprised because they think that it is rather a strange name. On the one hand Iam pleased with someone’s interest towards that my peculiarity. And, anyway, I like the name that my parents gave to me and when all my friends call me so.
