Title of the presentation event: School event "Day of English at school", 14/02/2020.

ENGLISH DAY AT SCHOOL.

In the process of teaching English a teacher faces several tasks: how to constantly maintain interest in the subject, what means to use to maintain a communicative orientation, how to maintain active motivation and the desire to improve knowledge of the English language? Extracurricular activities can help in solving all these problems.

For our students we conduct classes annually to realize the program “Trilingual Educational Program”. This year the idea came up to celebrate the English Day. We suggest you join in groups and think about a plan for the International English Language Day for different groups of students. We also want to offer you some ideas for such an extra-curricular event.

On February 14, 2020 our school-gymnasium No. 20 held a school-wide event "Only English is Spoken Today / Today we speak English."

The purpose of the event was to increase the intercultural competence of students by creating an English-language environment and familiarizing students with the culture of English-speaking countries. Prior to the event, the school organized activities on the design of the lobby and corridors. In the lobby opposite the entrance on the central wall there were large flags of 5 English-speaking countries and portraits of prominent figures and historical figures belonging to these countries. In the corridors on all three floors of the school, posters with common English phrases were placed to facilitate the communication of students with each other in English. Also along the corridors there were portraits of English and American writers, quotes of famous people in English. Labels with rooms’ names were replaced with equivalent ones in English.

Each subject teacher of Math, Geography, History, Biology, etc. was given classroom memos with common phrases Classroom Vocabulary for using elements of English speech during their lessons.

On the appointed day, according to the action plan, in the morning before the lessons began, music from English-speaking countries (English, Scottish, Irish, country) sounded in the lobby. Pupils of the 10th and 11th grades with symbolic elements on their clothes (emblems, Irish ties) greeted teachers and students arriving for classes, handing each a pre-made heart with pleasant wishes: “Have a nice day!”, “Good luck!”, “ Smile! ”,“Be happy!”, etc. In addition, teachers at the entrance were greeted with small sweet surprises.

.

During the first lesson, several groups of 11th-grade students visited each class and performed a health-saving English Warm up workout, teaching the words of songs to the music.

On the second and third lesson, 9th-grade students conducted the Smart English quiz in each group. According to the results of the quiz, the winners were awarded with diplomas of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree

On the lessons you can spend five minutes devoted to interesting facts about the English language. On the lessons, you can offer a number of tasks to expand students’ outlook and language competence.

A large crossword “English World” was hung on the bulletin board during the day .Students had to pass the answers later. The winner was awarded a diploma for excellent knowledge of the English language and the traditions of English-speaking countries.

In the hallway of the school on the second floor boxes for school mail were installed (St. Valentine’s Cards Post). Postmen delivered messages to groups.

During all classes scheduled on this day, students sang songs in English.

It is great if such events are held regularly to consolidate the result. It is also good if the teacher marks especially active children with marks and praise, then they will have an incentive to participate in similar events in the future, at their next meeting. The teacher himself will enjoy the process. Paying attention to any little things on the day of the English language, the teacher makes it more productive!
