  1. Организационный момент.

Good morning! I`m glad to see all of you today at the today`s lesson.

But first of all I would like to see who is present and who is absent today.

Who can tell me what is the date today?

And what the date of the week is today?

Have a look at these pictures, what do you think combines them?

Can you guess what is the topic of our lesson today? Great! It is the Great Patriotic War and the Past Simple Tense.

(Реакция на ответы учащихся: OK! Great! Thank you very much for your help!)

2. Речевая разминка.

- What do we usually do on the first of September?

Учащиеся отвечают.

Учитель: But on the first of September in 1939 was the beginning of the second world war. After that there were a lot of events in history of our country. For example: the Beginning of the 2nd World War, the beginning of Great Patriotic War, the defense of the Brest fortress, battle for Moscow, blockade of Leningrad, Russia's liberation from Nazi invaders

I have many associations with this word. For exаmple - June 22nd, 1941; German invasion, front, tragedy.

Do you have any associations?

Ученики: the Red Army, enemy, victory, May 9th, 1945

Учитель: So, our lesson is devoted to the Great Patriotic War. Since then 75 years have passed. Do we need to remember about this War?

Ученики: Yes, we do.

Учитель: Why? Look through the list of the reasons. Find the most suitable for you. (Appendix 1)

Ответы учеников:

We shouldn’t forget about the national feat.

We cultivate love for the motherland.

We want to live in peace.

Учитель: You’re right. There are many reasons why and you can add this list. First of all, we should remember the Great Patriotic War because we’re its grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the lesson we are going to learn and form new words, find information in the text and express our opinions.

3. Объяснение нового материала:

Let`s have a look at the blackboard and answer the questions.

When did the war started?

Who started the war?

Who won the war?

What was the date when the war ended?

What is the main symbol of Victory day?

Were those years of war tragic or unbearable ones?

Can the war be called a national tragedy?

Name the year when the Fascist Germany attacked the Soviet Union without declaring the war?

Thank you very much for answering the questions. Can anybody tell me what these questions incorporate?

They are all in the Past Simple Tense. Can anybody tell me what the Past Simple Tense means and when is it used in the language?

What two kinds of verbs exist in the English language?

V+ed V2

What is their difference?

As you have already noticed that the Past Simple Tense is used in many cases when we speak about the past events, historical occasions that took place and the things that happened to us before the moment of speaking.

Let`s sing the song which was written by Isakovsky and is called Katyusha.

Our task is to listen to the song and after it to find verbs which were used in the past tense. Be very attentive! Let`s sing it all together! (Appendix 2)

Nоw who can tell me what verbs you found in the song? Who can come to the blackboard right now and split them into two columns- the regular ones and the irregular othres.

Thank you very much for your cooperation! As you know the war is not only sang about but written about as well.

4. Закрепление материала:

Let`s have a look at the text about the war. You are going to hear the Russian text and your task will be to find the Russian equivalent of it.

Victory Day

The 9th of May is a special day for all Russian people. This is Victory Day. This is the day when the Great Patriotic War finished (this is how they call in Russia the World War II).

For the Soviet Union, the war started on the 22nd of June 1941. A day before, on the 21st of June, in all schools of the country there was a party - the last school ball. Girls and boys had just finished school. They were dancing, dreaming of the future and did not know that the following day, they would go to war and never come home again.

For the Soviet Union the war lasted for 4 years. It was a very hard time  for everyone. In many cities and villages there was starvation. Millions of Soviet soldiers died in this war. But they won and became heroes to every Russian person.

Since then more than 70 years have passed. But Russian people do not forget their heroes. In every city concerts are held in honour of the Great Patriotic War. In Moscow in the Red Square you can see a big parade. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren thank veterans for freedom.

6.Подведение итога изученной темы

The peoples of the former USSR sacrificed the lives of 27 million sons and daughters to the victory. The state suffered huge damage which amounted to 2,469 billion rubles (in pre-war prices). The war left its mark on the lives of millions of people not only in our country, but in the whole world as well.

Let`s sing the song which reminds us of the victory of the Russian people and the whole world in the war against the fascism!

Song The day of Victory. (На русском языке)

7. Домашнее задание:

Be ready to make a presentation about the war ( 8 -10 slides).

8. Рефлексия:

Учитель подводит итоги урока и предлагает ученикам дополнить предложения о том, что они сейчас понимают, что умеют и что хотят.

Учитель: Was our today’s lesson useful for you?

Ученик: Yes, it was.

Учитель: At the end of the lesson I suggest you to complete these sentences.
Now I see …

Now I can …

Now I want …

Ученик: Now I see what is a war

Appendix 2

Katyusha

Apple trees and pear trees were a flower,

River mist was rising all around.

Young Katyusha went strolling by the hour

On the steep banks,

O’er the rocky ground.

By the river’s bank she sang a love song

Of her hero in a distant land.

Of the one she’d dearly loved for so long,

Holding tight his letters in her hand.

Oh, my song, song of a maiden’s true love,

To my dear one travel with the sun.

To the one who Katyusha loves so,

Bring my greetings to him, one by one.

Let him know that I am true and faithful,

Let him hear the love song that I send.

Tell him as her he defends our home that grateful,

True Katyusha our love will defend.
