My Vocabulary Strategies

I'd like to be a good language learner. As far as I know, I have to come up with proper ways to help me remember and recall those vocabulary items that are on the tip of my tongue. To help me with vocabulary, I read a lot outside of class. While reading, I try to guess the meaning of unknown words from the context. I look around the word to see if there are any clues in nearby sentences or look at the root of the word in any affixation I see and in compounds too. Advice I would give myself, is to use more mnemonics to help me remember new words, i.e. to draw mind maps and word webs of related words in my lexical notebook, as well as to use rhymes or make a visual image to represent the word. I wish I knew more about different vocabulary strategies.
