The Mysteries of Dreams
This text devoted to problem of understanding such phenomenon as human dream. The text consists of introduction and four parts. At the beginning of the text author briefly describes the first impressions about dreams. The author also attracts our attention to the strange content of dreams.
Next parts tell us about researches in the sphere of science about dreams. Firstly author provides a brief description of Freud’s works about dreams. The author dwells on role of symbolism in the Freud’s interpretation of dreams. Further he says, that Freud also suggests that dream usually incorporates some minor, unresolved event from earlier in the day – a piece of “unfinished business” of some kind.
Then author points out that some scientist doubt about Freud’s explanations for dreaming. In this regard author gives us some information about Carl Jung theory. He analyses main differences and similarities between Freud’s and Jung’s dream theories. Author gives detail information about meaning of symbols in the theory of Jung. The author emphasizes the fact that Western civilization often ignore such symbolic language, and so they need help in understanding what their dreams are trying to say to them. In conclusion of this part the author says that most psychiatrists disagreed with some of the ideas of Freud or Jung.
In contrast with Freud and Jung next contain of the text stipulates that dreams don’t have symbolic function in our life. Author leads information about brain activity levels during time of dream. Author leads time of intervals for each level and calls each interval. Then author says about other theories of dreams where scientists says about problem-solving function, ordering the random signals function and brain’s purposeless response to this mental activity function of dreams.
In conclusion author express own opinion that knowledge about dreams will be widened and hope, that humanity will know more about meaning of dreams in the future.
