Learning objectives:

  • To introduce oneself

  • To say “hello”

  • To identify and respond to instructions

By the end of the lesson learners will have:

  • Greet each other saying “hello”

  • Introduce themselves saying “I am …”

  • Point to the appropriative icon after listening the instruction

Starter/warmer

5 mins

  1. Teacher greets the children by saying “Hello” with a help of using the puppet from his teacher’s set.

  2. Teacher greet the puppet and encourage Ps to greet puppet repeating after him

  3. Teacher stick the puppet on the board, asks Ps to say “hello” to each other in pairs, paying attention to the correct sounds in the word.

10 mins

  1. Teacher explains to the Ps that they are going to listen to the “Hello Song” with which they will start every lesson

  2. Ps are listening to the song several times.

  3. Teacher takes the flashcard and stick it on the board next to the puppet. Then he tells Ps that they are goin to listen to the audio. While Ps are listening, he points to the character who is speaking each time.

  4. Than teacher asks a few Ps to come up and point to the characters while the teacher plays audio for the second and third times.

  5. Teacher plays the audio again, pausing after each phrase and gets Ps to repeat.

Consolidation activity

10 mins

  1. Teacher takes the puppet of Smiling Sam and comes up to several pupils. He imitates Sam’s voice and says “Hello, I’m Smiling Sam”. Theacher encourages Ps to greet Sam, “Hello, Sam!”

  2. AB p.5t.1 Teacher gets Ps to open their AB and colour a picture of Smiling Sam in it. Pupils colour the picture.

Teacher asks a few Ps to come up with their coloured pictures and pretends they speak iys voice presenting “Hello! I’m Smiling Sam” in front of the class. The class should respond, “Hello, Sam”.

  1. Play a “Hot Potato” game. Children sit in the circle and make a ball out of a scrunched-up piece of paper and hold it saying, “Hello. I’m + name”.

Teacher gives Ps the ball and tells them to pass it to each other. At some point says, “Stop” the P who has the ball has to stand up and introduce himself/herself saying “Hello. I’m…”

The game is playing until all of the Ps introduce themselves.

  1. Multimedia Programme. Teacher tells Ps that they are going to watch the screen, listen and repeat all the instructions of Smiling Sam in English. (they are playing according to flashcards and rules of a game)

Closing activity

5 mins

  1. Teacher tells Ps that they are going to do Sam’s instructions. He holds up flashcard#7 (Listen and sing), plays PB Audio with “Hello Song” and sings it along with his Ps.

  2. Teacher asks Ps to bring their photos for the next lesson

  3. Teacher uses the puppet and imitating its voice say “Goodbye”
