Scene 1

A room with an open window and a calendar on the wall. The calendar says: 6 Friday. Behind the window there is a mouse hidden in the sack. It is not seen to the audience. 5 mice are sleeping in the room, keeping pillows under their heads. Each mouse has a letter on its back.

Narrator

There is a wonderful fairy tale “Here comes Monday” after Michael Bond. It’s about a small mouse that flew with a balloon into a friendly family and is left to live there. There are 12 children in that family. In our mouse family there are only 5 little mice. That’s why we changed the name of the fairy tale into “Here comes Friday”. Welcome to our story.

Mr.Peck and Mrs.Peck appear in the room.

Mr.Peck

(to the audience) I’m Mr.Peck, a mouse. And this is Mrs.Peck, a mouse. We’ve got 5 nice little children. Here they are!

Mrs.Peck

Look! They are still sleeping. How lovely they are!

Mr.Peck

It’s time to wake them up.

Mrs.Peck

Oh, please, let them sleep a bit more.

Mr.Peck

Ok, 5 more minutes.

They go away.

Scene 2

The little mice wake up one by one.

M A

Hey, wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Let’s play!

M B

Oh, no… 5 more minutes.

M A

(running and pushing his brothers and sisters) You’re sleepy bags! Wake up! I want to play!

They start throwing pillows at each other. Then a vigorous music starts playing. The mice are dancing with pillows and toys, playing tricks with each other.

In a while a red balloon appears in the open window. (Mouse Foundling sticks it out).

Suddenly the music stops and the mice stop dancing.

M A

(pointing to the balloon) Look! What’s this?

M B

Oh, it’s a balloon!

M C

I want a balloon!

M D

Me too!

M E

All mice

Me too!

Mummy! Daddy!

Mr.Peck and Mrs.Peck come in.

Mr.Peck

Children, what’s up?

M A

Mummy! Daddy! Look! There is a balloon there.

M B

We want a balloon!

M C,M D,M E

Year, we want that balloon! Please, get us the balloon!

All mice

Yes, get us a balloon!

All mice

Please!!!

Mr.Peck

Ok, let me see. He goes to the window to look at the balloon. It’s really a balloon, but it’s a strange balloon!

Mrs.Peck

Why is it strange?

Mr.Peck

It has a bag.

All mice

A b-a-aa-ag?

Mrs.Peck

What is there in the bag, I wonder?

All mice

Oh, what is there in the bag, we wonder?

Mr.Peck

We need to get it and then we’ll see. (to the children) Will you help me?

All mice

Sure!

Mr.Peck

One for all!

All mice

And all for one!

Mr.Peck takes the balloon and pulls it out. His children stand behind him and help him to pull. Then he gets it out, the children are very happy.

All mice

Thank you very much. Now we have a new nice red balloon!

They mice start playing with the balloon.

Scene 3

Mr. Peck is with the bag and the mice are playing with the balloon. He is examining the bag putting his ear close to it.

Mr.Peck

Ssh…! Let’s look at the bag! There is something in the bag! (looks in it) It’s not something! It’s somebody! There is a strange little mouse in the bag!

Mrs.Peck

(coming nearer) Poor thing! He’s not well. Let’s put him on the bed.

Mr.Peck

All right! Let’s …(He is trying to put the Foundling on the bed)

Foundling

Where… Where am I?

Mrs.Peck

You are with friends.

All mice

Yes, you are with friends.

Мrs.Peck

What’s your name?

Foundling

Eleven.

Mrs.Peck

Eleven?! But it isn’t a name. It’s a number!

Foundling

We haven’t got names in the house where I live. We have numbers instead. I don’t like it there. It’s so cold in our house. We haven’t got bread, grain, fruit or vegetables to eat. We are often hungry there.

Mrs.Peck

And what about your family?

Foundling

What is a family? I don’t have a family.

Mrs.Peck

No family!

All mice

No family!

Mrs.Peck

Poor thing!

All mice

Poor thing!

Mrs.Peck

Poor thing! You can come and live with us. Sometimes you can help me about the house.

Mr.Peck

Yes, you can come and live with us. You can help me in the garden.

All mice

Please, come and live with us. We like you very much. You can play with us.

Foundling

Thank you very much. I want to live in your house. It’s very large and warm. I like it here. And you all are very nice and kind mice.

Mrs.Peck

But if you want to live in our house, you must have a name, not a number. And your name must begin with “F”.

All mice

M A

M B

M C

M D

M E

Yes, our names begin with …

A (turns around to show the letter on the back)

B (turns around to show the letter on the back)

C (turns around to show the letter on the back)

D (turns around to show the letter on the back)

E (turning around to show the letter on the back)

MA

That’s why your name must begin with “F”.

Mr.Peck

I’m very sorry, but I can’t think of a name that begins with “F”.

All mice

We are very sorry, too, but we can’t think of a name that begins with “F” either.

Mr.Peck

Let’s all of us think of a name that begins with “F”.

They all go round thinking, thinking and thinking.

Mrs.Peck

I’ve got an idea! (pointing to the calendar) It’s Friday today. The poor thing has come to us on Friday. So Friday is his name.

Mr.Peck

That’s a very good idea.

All mice

Yes, it’s a very good idea.

Mr.Peck

You are right. He has come on Friday. So his name is Friday. It’s a very nice name.

Mrs.Peck

(asking Foundling) And do you like the name?

Foundling

Certainly I like the name. I like the house. And I like my new brothers and sisters. It looks like they are good friends. I can play with them. I can help them. And they can help me. ONE FOR ALL!

All mice

AND ALL FOR ONE!!!
