Ход урока
Подготовительный этап.
I. Оргмомент
Good morning, boys and girls! How are you today? Today we have a lesson on topic «Great Civilisations ». We`ll talk about such civilizations as Maya, Inka and Aztecs. About their habit of life. And we must answer such questions: What lesson can these civilizations teach us?
But first of all let`s remember What does the word «CIVILISATION» mean?
Civilisation is a society that has developed its own culture and institutions.
Look at the screen and try to name what it is. (A calendar)
What kind of calendar? (The Mayan calendar)
(2012)-Why is this date shown to you? (The Mayan calendar ends in 2012)

And what will be the topic of today’s lesson? Watch the videoclip and express your ideas. (Video “Maya. Civilisation lost”).

Yes, you are right. We are going to speak about one of the most mysterious civilizations of the past-the Mayan civilization.

2. What are the symbols of the Mayan civilisation? I’ll give you a clue. (Mayan calendar, pyramids, mayan temples, mayan gods, mayan tribe)

Now we are going to listen to the text about the Maya.
At first make sure you know these words. Repeat them after me.

VIII. Составление синквейна
You know, the Maya were gifted not only in science but also in poetry. I’ll read out a Mayan poem translated into English. I’ll give you this poem and your hometask will be to translate it.
Would you like to feel poets yourselves? I’ll teach you how to write an unusual poem – cinquain.
It consists of 5 lines. I want to show you my cinquain.
Maya –we write one noun to show the topic
ancient sophisticated - we write two adjectives to describe the noun
build farm disappear – we write three verbs to show the action
The Mayan civilization was powerful – a phrase that shows your relation to the topic
collapse – a synonym to the topic
And now make your own cinquains. You have clues on your tables.
