Look at the blackboard and let’s read this wonderful quotation by Franklin Piece: «The deer, the horse, the great eagle, these are our brothers… The Earth is our Mother… all thing are connected like the blood which unites the family». Please, read it after me playing attention to your sounds and intonation. And try to feel the sense of it with your whole hearts. These words are full of love for Man and Nature, aren’t they? Man is a part of Nature and Man must love it deeply.

2. Brainstorm.

T: As for me, I do love nature, I do love the Earth, I do love the beauty of spring.

  1. And do you love nature?

  2. Why do you love it?

  3. What does it mean to love nature?

II. The Main Part

1. Speaking.

T: You were given the task to speech about the beauty of nature of your native land. And you were asked to use the following words and expressions in your speech: to attract smb, to wake up, to make a deep impression on, to have one’s charm, vast steppes.

P1: Nature of my native land is so beautiful! We can’t help admiring the gentle Sea of Azov. I hear music in it. The Sea of Azov attracts people from all over the country. And vast steppes of my Zaporizhzhian land are too lovely for words! And the blue Dnipro-river is a sheer delight to the eye. Nature of my native land has its charm in every season. It always makes a deep impression on me. I can’t imagine my life brighter and happier.

P2: I also love nature of my native land. Its beauty attracts me and fills my heart with happiness. I’m fond of nature when it puts on its beautiful summer dress. I can’t help admiring flowers growing everywhere. I enjoy listening to birds singing merry songs.

T: Isn’t it a real, unforgettable beauty? And now let’s exchange an opinion about nature and its beauty. Some of you were given the tasks to make up dialogues of your own to express your thoughts concerning the beauty of nature.

P3: I say, nature of my native land is too lovely for words! I love it so much!

P4: I can’t help admiring nature in spring when it wakes up and you feel spring in the air, you feel the beauty and hear its music…

P3: Oh, yes, Yakimovka is so beautiful when fruit-trees are in blossom. It’s so picturesque indeed! And do you like nature in autumn?

P4: Yes, I do, especially when it’s Indian summer with its blue sky, sunny days, the ground is covered with a multicoloured carpet. And do you like rain in autumn?

P3: Why not? When the weather is wet we mustn’t fret. The rain is a present of nature, isn’t it?

2. Reading the text «The National Parks».

Some animals and plants have become rare in many parts of the world. People try to protect animals and birds, especially rare species and they open national parks.

The main idea and function of national park is to preserve natural beauty and wildlife and to show this beauty to the visitors. People can study and enjoy wildlife visiting national parks on vacations.

The most famous national parks are:

Yellowstone, the first National Park

Yellowstone is the United States’ first and most famous national park. This large wilderness area is very high in the Rocky Mountains of the North-Western USA. It includes large areas of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.

Yellowstone became the world’s first national park in 1872. Although millions of people visit the park, the land is still unchanged – still a wilderness. The valley of the Yellowstone River has beautiful colored rocks and three large waterfalls. In the valley you can come across mooses or buffaloes. They are large grass eating animals. The high mountains around Yellowstone are covered with evergreen forests. Great grizzly bears live there.

Yellowstone Park has many areas with hot springs and geysers or hot water fountains. They are caused by heat from hot centre of the Earth. In winter Yellowstone Park is covered with heavy snow.
