  • Hello, children. Good morning our guests.

I’m happy to see you here. Today we’ll have an unusual lesson with you - we’ll speak about the most important religious holiday in GB. I hope it will be interesting for all of us. Shall we start now?

The air is fresh , the sky is blue, it’s sunny.

Yes, of course , its about spring.

Spring is in the air! People call it the season of hope and happiness. And we all like it because in spring we celebrate some very important holidays.

Yes, it`s the most important religious holiday for Christians –Easter.

What do you know about Easter in Great Britain?

1.Easter is a religious holiday in March or April; a festival of spring and new life.

2.Easter starts on the Friday before Easter Sunday. The British call it Good Friday.

3.On this day they eat hot cross buns and give children chocolate eggs and chocolate rabbits. Eggs and rabbits are some of the Easter symbols.

4.In the morning on Easter Sunday people go to the church. After that, they have dinner with their families.

5.Children like Easter very much because it is a tasty holiday. All families colour eggs and put them into green, yellow and pink baskets. Next morning little children are busy with hunting eggs.


6.A very popular Easter tradition is to have an “Easter egg hunt”. Parents hide the Easter eggs and their children have to look for them.

Easter is a spring festival when people celebrate the return of nature and greenery after the cold, snowy winter. It is also the most important time in the Christian calendar. Christians celebrate the day when Jesus came back from death. Both the Christian and pagan versions of Easter celebrate life and rebirth.

The date of Easter varies each year as it is based on the lunar calendar and the position of the moon. Easter is celebrated on the Sunday after the full moon following March 21st. This can be any Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th.This year Easter Day is on Sunday, the 1st of April.

Preparation for Easter starts a few weeks before Easter weekend. People buy hot cross buns and Easter presents, for example Easter bunnies and eggs. They send postcards to their family and friends.

People go to the church in the morning on Easter Sunday. Many children boil eggs and paint them with bright colours. Some people boil eggs together with some flowers, so that the eggshell gets pattern from the plants. People often put eggs and bunnies into Easter baskets and decorate the house. Some people visit relatives and friends and exchange eggs. All over the world children have an Easter egg hunt. Adults hide eggs and the children hunts and collects them. The one with the most eggs is the winner. Another interesting game is egg rolling. Hard-boiled eggs are rolled down a hill. The winner’s egg may be the one that rolls the farthest survives the most rolls.

Eggs are a big part of Easter celebrations! Many people paint chicken eggs and decorate them with bright colours, and a lot of children receive chocolate eggs as presents . In my family we do it on Saturday evening.

Sunday is the day of Easter. People visit each other on this day and go to church.

  1. Do children have an Easter egg hunt or egg rolling?

No, in Russia children don`t have egg hunt or egg rolling, but they play a game - t They beat with eggs and who's egg didn 't break - won.
