1. Put the sentences in the right order to make a text.

1) Firemen were running everywhere, throwing water on the fire and then, suddenly, everything was all right again. I went into the house with the firemen. The kitchen was badly burnt and it smelt terrible but the other rooms in the house were fine.

2) Then, two days later, a letter arrived for me. Inside the envelope there were two tickets to his concert! How good was that!

3) My name’s David. One day I was walking home when I saw a fire in the downstairs window of a very big house. I went to the front door and shouted loudly but nobody came.

4) Then this man arrived. I knew him! He was a famous singer but he was also the man who lived in the big house. He thanked me very much and asked me for my name and address.

5) There was a telephone in the street near the house so I phoned and told someone about the fire. After about five minutes a fire engine with blue lights on the top come round the corner.

We can communicate with other people in many different ways. We can talk and write, send messages with our hands and faces. There is also the Internet, the mobile phone, e-mail, social networks, instant messaging. Television, movies, photography can also communicate ideas.

Animals have ways of exchanging information, too. Bees dance and tell other bees where to find food. Elephants make sounds that humans can’t hear. Whales sing songs. Monkeys use their faces to show anger and love. But this is nothing compared to what people can do. We have language – about 6000 languages, in fact. We can write poetry, tell jokes, make promises. And we have a sense of past and future, not just present.
