Essential question: “What are the peculiarities of usage articles in English language?”

Driving questions:

1. In what cases is the indefinite article “a/an used?

2. In what situations is the definite article “the” used?

3. When is the “zero” article used?

Aims:

  • to improve students’ speaking, listening, writing and reading skills;
  • to develop students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • to master students’ skills of correct usage of articles and examine every case of its application;
  • to provide collaborative work.

Objectives:

  • to investigate peculiarities of using the definite article “the”
  • to find out particular cases of using indefinite article
  • to explore peculiarities of using “zero” article
  • to collect necessary material
  • to generalize analyze and the information, to draw conclusions
  • to create the brochure with the deduced information

Preparations for the project

The teacher: Conducting the survey to identify students’ interest in the study of the theme of the project.

Students: answer the questionnaire

Introduction of the project.

The division into teams.

The teacher: presents essential question.

Description of the method of dividing the class into teams.(There are 3 pictures that are cut into 5 pieces. Students should collect the whole pictures and recognize their partners).

Distribution of driving questions for teams, recommended literature on the issue.

Students: choose the captain of each team, name the teams.

The teacher: instilling students’ interest and giving general ideas about the grammatical subject. (Showing the video and asking questions(listening skill); presentation of the fairytale - reading, speaking, writing ).

Students: following the teacher's instructions;watch the video and then answer teacher’s question; listen to the fairytale and do exercises based on it

The teacher: present to students assessment criteria prepared by the teacher. Supervise students’ discussion. Correct the information presented by students.Giving additional task: Each team must create a presentation, which is accompanied by distribution of brochures.

Listening activity: students will listen the song and fill in the gaps with appropriate articles.

Students: formulate the results of research in the form of brochures and discuss created brochures on the basis of established criteria of assessment. Correct the information presented by students.
