Lesson
Introduction (5 min)
Tell students that today we repeat what present simple tense is and how we use it in written and spoken language.
Instruction (20 min)
Show them a Power point presentation and ask them to take notes (rules: positive, negative and interrogative forms of present simple, examples of uses. Show funny pictures with examples of repeated actions (Baby cries every night), facts of generalizations (Cats like milk) and scheduled events in the near future (He plays PS4 tonight).
Ask students if they have questions and ask some of them to give their examples.
*Problems anticipated: give some lined papers to those who may forget their grammar notebooks.
Oral practice (15 min)
Show to the class a funny video from “Partners” and ask them to pay attention what tense the characters use in their dialogue and why they use this tense? The video is about a situation in an office. Two colleagues discuss what the third one does. They comment his everyday habits. The students will see and will discuss the use of present simple in the dialogue.
Written practice (20 min)
Individually, ask students to practice present simple in their exercise books, note pages on the table. Secondary two students will practice in Snapshot and secondary three students will practice in Viewpoint.
Ask five students to give me their pages for correction to check their comprehension. Tell students that I will give all answers and discuss common mistakes at the beginning of the next course.
Closure (10 -15 min)
Show students a funny video “Mr. Bean’s daily routine” and ask them to describe what happens on the video. They need to use present simple tense, as they have to describe the routine of Mr. Bean (repeated actions) and use present simple in oral discussion.
